Massachusetts Institute of Technology
In January 2006, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) in Cyprus, signed a Collaboration and Research Agreement with the Cyprus Institute, to support the Institute’s realization of its 2005 Enterprise Plan for the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC).
The Agreement provides for the establishment of the EEWRC to address issues and problems related to energy, the environment and water resources of importance to Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean region. The RPF agreed to support and facilitate the development of the EEWRC and to provide Programmatic Funds for the LFEE CEEW program at MIT. The research and education program at EEWRC will, during the term of the agreement, be complementary to and coordinated with the CEEW Program at MIT’s Laboratory for Energy and the Environment (LFEE).
MIT agreed to assist the Institute in the creation and development of the EEWRC by providing advice on the development of an agenda of technical, scientific and academic subjects that will form EEWRC’s research and academic program and by providing various other start-up advice, within the areas in which LFEE’s faculty and staff have relevant expertise. LFEE through the CEEW program will participate in joint research and educational activities with EEWRC.
Other provisions of the Agreement include the following:
- Establishment of the Graduate Student Cyprus Fellows.
- Establishment of the Graduate Student Cyprus Fellows and the Post-doctoral Cyprus Fellows in the LFEE CEEW program at MIT.
- Cross-registration of graduate students.
- Joint appointment of faculty and researchers.
- Joint Seminars and Research and Educational Activities/Outreach.
