The Cyprus Institute

The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a novel research and educational institution with a scientific and technological orientation. It is led by Professor Costas N. Papanicolas, the President of CyI, and its Research division is directed by Professor Leonard Barrie, Vice President for Research. The institute strives to benefit Cyprus, the region and Europe and to provide a new and exciting model for a scientific and educational community, directing its efforts to address issues of local or regional interest and of global significance.

It is envisaged that the CyI will be organized around two major complementary academic structures: the College and the Research Centers. Since the availability of funding and the need to establish and maintain from the very beginning internationally recognized excellence, the Research Centers are being developed first, in conjunction with post-graduate studies. And undergraduate education will be implemented in a second phase.

Academic and research units will be heavily dependent on each other for their success and effectiveness. The organization of the CyI is therefore, from the very beginning, designed to facilitate this duality.

The Cyprus Institute is:

  • world-class in its standards and international in its membership;
  • partnered with outstanding international institutions;
  • staffed by leading faculty and researchers in the fields of science and technology;
  • independent in its support but public in its commitment and service;
  • devoted to the well-being of local, regional, and international communities;
  • welcoming to students, faculty, and staff of all nations, cultures, races and faiths;
  • dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and to its humane and benevolent application.
