On Thursday, September 21st, the inauguration of the exhibition "The Secrets of a Royal Portrait" will take place at the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia. The exhibition features a cross-disciplinary study of an important painting, attributed to the circle of Titian, of Caterina Cornaro, the last Lusignan Queen of Cyprus. The Cyprus Institute, specifically STARC and its Art Characterization project team, led the scientific study of the painting.

The exhibition will present the art history of the work as well as the results of the technical and analytical study of the painting, where STARC and our Art Characterization project team played a central role; in this capacity CyI is the scientific collaborator of "The Secrets of a Royal Portrait" exhibit. Specifically, STARC experts performed a detailed digital technical imaging study of the work followed by a thorough physico-chemical analysis of the paintings colour pigments and materials.

On the day following the inauguration, Friday September 22nd, a small conference will be held in which scientists who participated in the study, among them our colleagues Nikolas Bakirtzis, Sorin Hermon, and Svetlana Gasanova, will present their findings.
