Former CEO of the Cyprus Development Bank

Mr. Joannides is an economist and former Chief Executive Officer of the Cyprus Development Bank. Joannides played a leading part in the promotion of the scientific analysis, evaluation and survey of works and enterprises. Furthermore, he promoted the internationalization of the Cyprus economy.

Former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice

Dr. Kareklas was previously the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus.  He also held this position in the Ministries of Defense and of Education and Culture. He has also served in a managerial position in the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB).

MONIZ Ernest
U.S. Secretary of Energy

In March 2013, President Obama nominated Prof. Moniz as U.S. Secretary of Energy. Moniz is the 'Cecil and Ida Green Distinguished Professor of Physics and Engineering Systems' at MIT and Director of MIT's Energy Initiative. He has served as Under Secretary of the US Department of Energy and as Associate Director for Science in the Office of Science and Technology Policy of the White House (1995 - 1997). In 2009, Moniz was appointed by President Obama to join the President's Council on Science and Technology. He is the recipient of many prizes and awards, including the S. Cray prize.  He has been awarded with the Grand Cross Medal of the Archbishop Makarios III for his contribution in the development of Research and Education in Cyprus. For more information.

Mr. Mouskos is a businessman and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Development Bank. He served as member of the House of Representatives for 10 years.

CERN, Switzerland

Prof. Herwig Schopper is a Professor Emeritus of Physics at the University of Hamburg, Dr.h.c.mult. He is also the former Director General of CERN, Geneva and former Director of DESY Laboratory, Hamburg. He is Chair of CyI's Scientific Advisory Council, Schopper is a co-founder of SESAME International Laboratory in Jordan, former President of the German and European Physical society and member of several national and international academies (e.g.German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, World Academy of Science and Art, Academia Europea). He has received numerous distinctions and awards including the Grand Cross of the German Order of Merit, UNESCO Albert Einstein Gold Medal and the Tate Medal of the American Institute of Physics. In December 2012, Schopper was awarded by the President of the Republic H.E. Demetris Christofias, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Cyprus for his contribution in science, technology and education in Cyprus and the wider region. For more information.

Director of the University Mental Health Research Institute

Prof. Stefanis is Professor of Medicine and the Director of the University Mental Health Research Institute. He is a member and former President of the Athens Academy. He has served as a Member of the Greek Parliament and as Minister of Health. He is the recipient of many awards, including distinctions from the US, German and Russian Academies.

SESAME, Jordan

H.E. Dr. Toukan is the Minister of Energy and Resources of Jordan. Formerly, he held positions as the Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission and Director of SESAME and as the Minister of Education of Jordan. He has served as Chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Jordan and President of the Al-Balqa Applied University in Jordan. For more information.

Former President of the Republic of Cyprus

H.E. Dr. Vassiliou, Doctor in Economics, was the President of the Republic of Cyprus between 1988 and 1993. In 1998, he was appointed as Chief Negotiator for Cyprus' accession to the European Union, responsible for all the work of harmonization and the adoption and implementation of the acquis communautaire.
