3DCOFORM Workshop: 3D acquisition and post-processing

Dates:
2 Nov 2009 - 6 Nov 2009
Venue:
The Cyprus Institute, Guy Ourisson Building, Athalassa Campus (Higher Technical Institute - HTI, grounds)

3DCOFORM aims to establish 3D documentation as an affordable, practical and effective mechanism for long-term documentation of tangible cultural heritage. In order to contribute to this aim, we are engaging with the Cultural Heritage (CH) sector to empower them to take advantage of the availability of 3D technologies and encourage the widespread adoption of these technologies.

The first workshop of the 3DCOFORM training series on “3D acquisition and post-processing” will take place at The Cyprus Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus on 2-6 November 2009. The training will be highly interactive, involving hands-on exercises in using 3D technologies. By the end of the training, participants will have the opportunity to take back software tools and data to work on their own case studies. Anyone can enrol on this training, although a technical background in areas such as photography would be advantageous. We would also encourage people who receive this training to be available to train others in the future.

Church of the Timios Stavros of Missirikou: The small domed church dates from the Venetian period and under Ottoman rule it was transformed into a mosque known as “Arablar Mosque” (mosque of the Arabs). The buildings’ typological and decorative features reflect the influence of byzantine, gothic and early renaissance architecture, while its use as a mosque added Islamic architectural elements such as the minaret. It is considered an important monument of a transitional period in the architecture of medieval Cyprus as it bears the physical evidence of multiple stylistic influences and uses.
