Abstract

We investigate the propagation of conservative contaminants in water-saturated, heterogeneous porous media. Even a 'conservative'contaminant or tracer, which does not undergo any kind of reaction with the porous medium, can demonstrate transport behavior that is different from that predicted by a pure Fickian-based advective-dispersive transport. Differences in contaminant migration when the scale of heterogeneities is smaller than the system size  were investigated previously. Here we are interested in contaminant migration in the presence of large scale heterogeneities when statistical homogeneity does not hold.
