Prof. Rizopoulou Egoumenidou studied History and Archaeology at Athens University from 1964 to 1969. She received Certificates in Prehistoric and Classical Archaeology from the University of Heidelberg (1970-1971) and then went on to pursue her Master of Arts in Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology at London University (1971-1974). She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from Aristotle University in Thessaloniki in 1994.

Prof. Rizopoulou Egoumenidou served as Archaeological Officer, Head of the Branch of Folk Culture of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities (1983-1995), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor of Folk Art and Architecture, Department of History and Archaeology, University of Cyprus (1995- 2013). She is currently Professor Emerita, University of Cyprus (since 2013) and Adjunct Professor, The Cyprus Institute, Nicosia (since 2015).

She set up the The House of the Dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornessios, Nicosia, The Rural Museum, Phikardou, The Lefkara Folk Art Museum, The Folk Art Museum, Yeroskipou. Prof. Rizopoulou Egoumenidou has served as Consultant for issues of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, since January 2012.

From 1995 to 2016 she participated (or coordinated) 29 projects and 95 conferences in 25 countries. She is author or co-author of 16 books, 35 chapters in books, 25 articles in journals and 40 articles in conference proceedings.
