Vice President for Research and Research Office of The Cyprus Institute

e stephanouThe Research Division of the Cyprus Institute is led by Professor Euripides G. Stephanou.

In 2015, after an international search the CREF Board appointed Prof. Stephanou as the Vice-President for Research (VPR) of The Cyprus Institute. 
Prof. Stephanou also holds a tenured faculty position with an active research interest in the field of Environmental Chemistry.

The Office of Vice President for Research promotes the development of The Cyprus Institute in planning and applying strategies and policies to maintain and increase its research funding; shape its response to a changing and challenging research landscape; and enhance its standing as a novel research and educational institution. The VPR Office also works closely with the researchers and research groups of CyI to help develop collaborative cross-disciplinary research activity and facilitate the development of institutional relationships with major research and private funders.

The Office of Research and Innovation Management and Support (RIMS) operates under the Vice President for Research to implement the research mission of the Cyprus Institute. The rationale of the office is to centralise institutional activities, such as Key Performance Indicators, Innovation and institutional bids for funding; facilitate optimal transfer of know-how among the group of Scientific Coordinators; identify funding sources and assist in proposal development and consortia building; assist in the negotiation of grants and funding agreements; liaise with funding agencies; and promote compliance with the funding agencies and the CyI policies.
Also two institutional Facilities function under the VPR:

  • The mission of the High Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) is to provide ICT services and support the activities of CyI and its Research Centres. The HPCF provides compute and data resources to the research community of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean region and aims to be established as the national supercomputing facility. It is also the mission of the HPCF to assist CyI in collaborating and providing ICT services to the national and regional/international academic research communities, and in certain cases to the public and private sectors.
  • The Facility for Chemical Analysis (FCA) with the mission to provide advanced chemical analyses services and support to the Research Centres of CyI. The Facility has also the mission to assist CyI in collaborating and providing services to the national and regional/international academic and research communities, and in certain cases to the public and private sectors.
