Dendrochronology is a scientific method that studies the growth of tree-rings to date objects of wooden heritage (i.e. archaeological material, icons, wooden roofs and beams) as well as to provide data related to past atmospheric and climate conditions. The collaborative development of the Cyprus Dendrochronology Laboratory (CDL) supported within the framework of the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories of the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center at CyI will promote the great potential of dendrochronological research for Cyprus and its surrounding region.

About the Speaker
sturt manning

Sturt Manning began his studies in Australia (BA, MA), before receiving his PhD from Cambridge. He was a Research Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge, a Lecturer and later a Reader at the University of Reading, and a Professor at the University of Toronto, before taking up his current position as Goldwin Smith Professor of Classical Archaeology at Cornell. He is presently also Director of the Cornell Institute of Archaeology and Material Studies, and Chair of the Department of Classics.
