Dr Michel Menu Appointed New Director of STARC, Effective March 1st 2023

Dr Michel Menu has been appointed as new Director of the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC) following a decision by The Cyprus Institute’s Board of Trustees. The appointment is effective March 1st, 2023.

Dr. Menu received his PhD in Physics/Optics in 1978 from the University Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris 6 and wrote a Habilitation in Physics in 1992 at the University Paris-Sud-Saclay-Paris 11. He was Director of Research (Laboratory department) of the Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France (C2RMF) with 45 permanent researchers and technicians, including art historians, physicists, chemists, radiologist, image specialists, and 15 non-permanent staff (post-docs and PhD students). He served also as co-leader of the team Physico Chimie des Matériaux Témoins de l’Histoire (PCMTH) of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) unit.
 
In his congratulatory remarks Prof. Stavros Malas, President of The Cyprus Institute, noted that Dr. Menu has had a long collaboration with The Cyprus Institute dating back to the establishment of STARC, and has contributed substantially to its development. “He has an excellent understanding of the Institute’s needs and his vision is in full alignment with the Institute’s strategic plan and STARC’s research activities.  I am sure that his long-experience in teaching, mentoring, research management, openness and interpersonal skills are key in driving the Center toward a new era of success”, Prof. Malas said.
