Visit by Mr Jean-François Mbaye, Member of the French Parliament to Discuss Scientific Solutions for Tackling Climate Change

On Wednesday, 15th of September 2021, Mr Jean-François Mbaye, Member of the French Parliament, accompanied by Mr. François Xavier Carabelli, Parliamentary Attaché, and Mr Emmanuel Mouriez, representative from the French Embassy, visited CyI’s premises in Athalassa.

Hosting the meeting was CyI Assistant Vice-President for International Relations, Dr Nicolas Jarraud, in the presence of CyI Vice President for Operations, Dr Michalis Yiangou, EEWRC Director, Prof. Fadi Comair, CARE-C Director, Prof. Jean Sciare, and EEWRC Associate Professor of Hydrology and Water Management, Dr Adriana Bruggeman.

Following a brief presentation about CyI and its activities by Dr Nicolas Jarraud, the delegation was given information about the Cyprus Government Climate Change Initiative, whose scientific portion of the Action Plan is being developed from findings and recommendations of international scientific task forces composed of scientists from 25 countries, and is coordinated by The Cyprus Institute.

In the context of this work, The Cyprus Institute will continue raising awareness on the Climate Crisis first with its “WEFE Nexus Science Advances Online Conference”, which will be conducted on 27-29 of September, and will be followed by the 2nd International Conference on “Climate Change in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Region”, which will take place on 13-14 of October. The delegation was also given a short, guided tour of CyI laboratories and other research infrastructures, including FRESNEL, APAC and USRL.

Finally, the delegation expressed their thanks for the opportunity to visit and congratulated the administration and the scientists of the Institute for the impressive, modern facilities and their research achievements.
