Visit by the Ambassador of Italy to Nicosia to Discuss Upcoming Joint Activities

a cavallariOn Monday, 5th of April 2021, His Excellency the Ambassador of Italy to Nicosia, Mr. Andrea Cavallari, visited The Cyprus Institute’s premises. The Ambassador congratulated The Cyprus Institute for its numerous and close ties with Italian Research Institutions, and expressed his optimism that this relationship will continue to grow in coming years. In turn, the President of The Cyprus Institute, Prof. George Christophides, thanked the Ambassador for his continuous support over the years for joint research activities with Italian Research Centres and Universities.

Both parties re-iterated their shared commitment to combatting Climate Change, with Italy co-hosting the November 2021 CoP26 and with The Cyprus Institute hosting the October 2021 2nd International Conference on Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the Middle East: Challenges and Solutions as well as the scientific component of the Cyprus Government Initiative for Coordinating Climate Change Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Region to the Protection and Valorisation of Cultural Heritage, and to clean Energy.

During this visit, a whole range of new joint activities were discussed, which will be announced in the coming months. The Cyprus Institute has established over 200 research collaborations over the years with Italian partners, and hosts numerous Italian researchers. Over the last few years, The Cyprus Institute and the Italian Embassy have co-hosted the Enrico Fermi Lectures series, with the aim of bringing to Cyprus leading Italian scientists to speak about cutting-edge scientific developments, thus contributing to the scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
