Aristotelis Liakakos is a PhD researcher in climate science working on climate extremes, heatwaves, and Earth System Model evaluation over the Eastern Mediterranean and broader EMMENA region. His research combines climate dynamics, statistical climatology, and high-performance computing to investigate the characteristics and drivers of extreme temperature events.

A central focus of his work is the development of novel methodologies for heatwave detection and quantification. He is the creator of the Warm Spell Magnitude Index daily (WSMId), a dimensionless metric designed to characterize warm spell events through their combined intensity and duration. His research involves large-scale analysis of reanalysis and climate model datasets, the development of computational workflows for extreme-event diagnostics, and the assessment of future climate risks in a warming climate.
