Somnath Bhowmick is a specialist in physical chemistry, with a strong foundation in quantum chemistry, path integral molecular dynamics, and quantum dynamics. After completing his M.Sc., he embarked on a research fellowship focusing on a biologically inspired quantum dynamics project.
Somnath earned his doctoral degree in quantum chemistry, where he developed methods to calculate lower bound energies and employed precise techniques to assess the role of excited states in atom/ion adsorption on lithium clusters. His postdoctoral work delved into the low-temperature kinetics of reactions, which are critical in astrochemical, environmental, and industrial contexts.
Currently, Somnath is advancing research on the quantum chemical description of nanocluster formation, exploring its potential applications in catalysis, sensors, and other areas. His work also encompasses the dynamics of atmospheric nucleation, contributing to our understanding of atmospheric processes and their broader implications.
