Rimal Abeed
Rimal Abeed is a Postdoctoral research fellow in Atmospheric Sciences, Emissions and Modelling at the Center of Excellence for Climate and Atmosphere Research (CARE-C), The Cyprus Institute. Rimal holds a BSc in chemistry from the Lebanese University in Tripoli, Lebanon, a master’s degree in environmental chemistry from the Lebanese University in Beirut, Lebanon, and a master’s degree from the University of Lille, France, in the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere.
She later earned a PhD in remote sensing and environmental science at LATMOS laboratory (Laboratoire atmosphères, milieux, observations spatiales) and Sorbonne University in Paris, France. In Her PhD work she focused on air pollution due to agricultural practices, one of her studies studied the effect of the civil war in Syria using satellite data and air pollution due to agriculture as a proxy.
Prior to her appointment at The Cyprus Institute, she worked as a Postdoctoral researcher in Paris, in the LSCE laboratory (Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement). In her work she focused on the estimation of GHG emissions, using atmospheric models and satellite data, in China and the Eastern Mediterranean & Middle East (EMME) region.
Rimal’s current work at The Cyprus Institute is a continuation to her expertise in the field of emissions modeling, in which she continues estimating emissions in the EMME region.
