Euphrosyne Rizopoulou-Egoumenidou

At an awards ceremony held at the Academy of Athens’ premises in Athens on Tuesday, 20th of December 2022, CyI Adjunct Professor and Emerita Professor at the University of Cyprus, and Vice President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Euphrosyne Rizopoulou-Egoumenidou, was awarded a prize for her book entitled “Inventory of the property of the Dragoman of Cyprus, Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios. Contribution to the research of the material, social and spiritual life of Cyprus during the 18th and early 19th centuries”, Published by the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation, KERAMOS Publications, Nicosia 2020.

Significant part of this long-term research was carried out and made possible by contributions from The Cyprus Institute. Specifically, the entire “Katasticho” (the original manuscript of the inventory of the property of the Dragoman) was photographed using various state-of-the-art techniques by experts at The Cyprus Institute, revealing four different watermarks previously unknown. These efforts also contributed to the identification of the paper used for the manuscript. Additionally, multispectral photography of the portraits of Dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, carried out by CyI research technical specialist, Ropertos Georgiou, revealed new elements, not visible to the naked eye.
