CyI Faculty Listed Among World's Leading Scientists

banner

A number of faculty from The Cyprus Institute have recently been listed in two prestigious rankings of the world’s top scientists. The first list, entitled “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators” is published by Stanford University (USA), and is based on a number of indicators focusing on the impact of published work of millions of scientists worldwide and throughout their academic career, and specifically on the citations they receive according to the Scopus database.

In the list, scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Career-long data up to end-of-2021 along with single year data pertaining to citations received during calendar year 2021 are included. The selection is based on the top 100,000 scientists or a percentile rank of 2% or above in the sub-field.

The faculty members of The Cyprus Institute in the list are:
  1. Prof. Salvatore Carlucci, Professor, associated with the Energy, Environment, and Water Research Center (EEWRC)
  2. Prof. Constantine Dovrolis, Professor and Director-elect of the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC)
  3. Prof. Vangelis Harmandaris, ERA Chair Professor, associated with the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC)
  4. Prof. Thilo Rehren, A.G. Leventis Professor, associated with the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC)
  5. Prof. Theodoros Zachariadis, Professor, Interim Director of the Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Center (STEDI-RC), and associated with Energy Policy at the Energy, Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
In addition to the full-time faculty listed above, four more faculty affiliated with the Institute are also included:
  1. Prof. Constantia Alexandrou, CyI Institute Professor and Professor at the University of Cyprus
  2. Prof. Philippe Ciais, CyI Institute Professor and Associate Director at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (LCSE), Université Paris Saclay
  3. Prof. Jos Lelieveld, CyI Institute Professor and Director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany
  4. Prof. Nikos Mihalopoulos, Professor, affiliated with the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) and Director of the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development (IERSD) of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA)
Professors Ph. Ciais and J. Lelieveld are also listed in a second, narrower ranking entitled “Highly Cited Researchers” published by Clarivate, which lists just 6,938 researchers worldwide, and whose papers rank in the top 1% by citations in their field, as found in Web of Science database. Of the world’s population of scientists and social scientists, Highly Cited Researchers are 1 in 1,000.

The Cyprus Institute is proud of this significant achievement and warmly congratulates each faculty member for their consistently high level of research output that has both local significance and global impact.
