STARC in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus has successfully organized a two-day online workshop entitled: “Methods of Archaeological Sciences in the field and in the laboratory: What, How and Why?” on Monday, 12th and Tuesday, 13th of October 2020 at The Cyprus Institutes’ premises in Aglantzia. Scientists from STARC, University of Cambridge and University of Leuven focused on sampling procedures in the field and methods of analysis in the laboratory on organic and inorganic archaeological materials.

The two-day workshop was virtually attended by members of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, members of the Ministry of Culture in Greece, many students and professional archaeologists from the Eastern Mediterranean, but also worldwide. More than 6,000 users have so far watched the videotaped material which is accessible on CyI’s social media accounts. The event was live-streamed via The Cyprus Institute YouTube channel. You can watch the workshop here: Day 1 and Day 2.

The Cyprus Institute teams up with the University of Cambridge and KU Leuven to advance Archaeological Science research in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME), supported by a 3-year grant from the H2020 Widening support action “Twinning”. The PROMISED Project forms a three-node network of excellence in Bioarchaeology and Archaeological Materials Science within the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC) at The Cyprus Institute and linking it with the internationally-leading advanced research centres in Archaeological Science at KU Leuven and the University of Cambridge.
