Distinguished Personalities Join CyI’s Board of Trustees

In the latest addition to its membership, three distinguished personalities have been invited, and accepted to join the Board of Trustees of the Cyprus Research and Educational Foundation (CREF). These are:
 
Prof. David Andelman is a Professor of Condensed Matter Physics and Biophysics and the incumbent of the Moyses Nussenzveig chair in Statistical Physics at Tel Aviv University. His research interests include the theory of soft condensed matter, statistical and biological physics as well as environmental science and renewable energies. He serves as the head of the Breakthrough Research Grant (BRG) program of the Israel Science Foundation and also has served as the chair of the School of Physics at Tel Aviv University. He is a fellow of the American Physics Society and was awarded, among others, the Humboldt Research Award, the Bourke Award by the Royal Society, the Chinese Academy of Science Presidential International Fellowship, and the Henri de Rothschild Fellowship at the Curie Institute, Paris.
 
Prof. Marc Mézard is a theoretical physicist. He received a PhD from École Normale Supérieure in Paris, did a post-doc in Rome, and became the head of statistical physics group in Paris-Sud University. Since 2012 he is the Director of École Normale Supérieure. His main field of research is statistical physics and its use in various branches of science – biology, economics and finance, information theory, computer science, statistics and signal processing. In recent years, his research has focused on information processing in neural networks. Prof. Mézard has received the Lars Onsager prize of the American Physical Society, the Humboldt Gay-Lussac prize, the silver medal of CNRS, and the Ampere prize of the French Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences.
 
Mr. Constantinos Ioannou is an entrepreneur who served as Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus from March 2018 until July 2021. He was educated at UMIST obtaining a BSc in Management Science and holds a Master’s Degree from Cornell University.  He is the founder of IMH Ltd the leading Corporate Events and Media organization operating in the Knowledge and Information Economy in Cyprus. He served as Board Member on various organizations in Cyprus and abroad. 

 


 

The Board of Trustees of the Cyprus Research and Educational Foundation (CREF) constitutes the governing body of The Cyprus Institute and as such, it holds the duty to govern CyI, to oversee the stewardship of CyI for its well-being and stability. It ensures that CyI adheres to the purposes for which it was established, and that its vision and mission are being effectively implemented. It is international in its membership and includes distinguished leaders in science, industry, policy, education and public service; it is currently chaired by Prof. Dan-Olof Riska of the Finnish Society of Science and Letters.
