TotalEnergies Delegation Headed by Senior VP for Middle East and North Africa, Mr Laurent Vivier, Visit CyI’s PROTEAS Solar Research Facility

On Friday, 10th of June 2022, a high-level delegation from TotalEnergies France headed by the Senior Vice President for Middle East and North Africa, E&P of TotalEnergies, Mr. Laurent Vivier, along with the General Manager of TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V., Mr. Romain de La Martinière, its Operations & HSE Coordinator, Mr. Andreas Manoli, the Joint Ventures and Government Affairs Advisor of TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V., Mr. Andreas Tornaritis, the Vice President for General Affairs, Mrs. Isabelle Dalsace, the Technical Director, Mr. Nicolas Davenas, the Geosciences Director, Mr. Eric Zaugg, and the Finance Manager, Mrs. Claire Grosjean, visited The Cyprus Institute’s Platform for Research, Observation and Technological Applications in Solar Energy (PROTEAS) Facility in Pentakomo, Limassol.

Inaugurated in October 2015, PROTEAS Facility is the largest research infrastructure in Cyprus. Its mission is to pursue research, development of solar technologies, as well as testing of Renewable Energy Sources with emphasis on Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST), Thermal Energy Storage (TES) and Thermal Desalination of Sea Water (DSW) for bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial needs.

Hosting the meeting was CyI Asst. Vice President of Strategy and Development, Dr Konstantinos Kleovoulou, in the presence of CyI Asst. Vice President for Institute Affairs, Dr Nicolas Jarraud, CARE-C Director, Prof. Jean Sciare, Head of PROTEAS Operations Facility, Dr Marios C. Georgiou, CyI Assoc. Professor in Energy Policy, Dr Theodoros Zachariades, and CyI Assoc. Research Scientist in Energy Policy, Dr Nestor Fylaktos.

The delegation was given a briefing on the Institute’s research activities and a general presentation by Dr Konstantinos Kleovoulou, followed by a round-table discussion that centred around the potential for further collaboration on energy technologies, greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and solutions for tackling climate change. The delegation of TotalEnergies was also given a guided tour of PROTEAS Facility by Dr Marios C. Georgiou, and had the opportunity to see its dedicated plaque on the “adopted” heliostat placed in the field laboratory of PROTEAS.

The delegation from the TotalEnergies expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit, and congratulated the Institute for its research achievements, as well as for the modern and unique facilities in Pentakomo. TotalEnergies reassured its support in pioneering programs and activities that address environmental issues.
