Energy Systems Optimisation

course img energy systems optimisation

Course Summary

The course covers various aspects of optimization with a focus on applications to energy systems. Various aspects of energy systems will be discussed, such as the challenges of energy transition, optimisation of energy systems, decentralised energy systems, energy communities, and energy technologies. The course will introduce concepts from optimization theory, followed by practical applications of the discussed approaches.

Course Participants

The course is open to undergraduate and graduate students with a basic understanding of energy technologies, mathematics, and programming skills (preferably python).

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Obtain a basic understanding of energy systems.
  • Understand how energy technologies operate and how to evaluate
  • Learn the fundamentals of optimization theory, how to set up an optimization model and solve it.
  • Learn how to identify the optimal configuration, design, and operation of an energy system.

Mentoring

In the context of the course, participants will acquire hands-on experience in solving opitmisation models related to energy systems and participate in group discussions related to the challenges of energy transition.

For more information on the course, please see the Course Handbook.
