Vijay Kanawade joined the CyI as an Associate Research Scientist in September 2023. Vijay is an atmospheric scientist who did his Master of Technology in Atmospheric Physics from the Department of Atmospheric and Space Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University, India. Vijay completed his Ph.D. in Earth Observation Science Group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leicester, UK in 2010. After his Ph.D., Vijay joined as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Kent State University, OH, USA (2010-2012),  Senior Project Scientist at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India (2012-2014), and Visiting Researcher at Lund University (2015). Before joining the CyI, Vijay worked as a UGC-Assistant Professor in the Center for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (2016-2023).

Vijay has a long history of harmonizing datasets from different platforms (satellite, in-situ measurements, and models), with a focus on aerosols impact on weather, climate, and ecosystem, with the process-level understanding of secondary aerosol formation studies at the center of his research interest.  Vijay aims to improve our process-level understanding of secondary aerosol formation and growth and how these processes affect the ecosystem and climate around EMME-area.
