Seyed Omid Nabavi

I started my Ph.D. at the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Vienna in 2013. I studied dust storms and their natural drivers in the Middle East using remotely sensed data, atmospheric models, and machine learning algorithms.
In October 2018, I joined the MiSKOR project at the University of Bayreuth (Bavaria, Germany). This project was around the numerical and statistical estimation and projection of surface ozone under different climate change scenarios on an urban scale in northern Bavaria.
Since March 2021, I have been working at the Cyprus Institute. The study topic is the dispersion modeling of radioactive substances in the Middle East using a Lagrangian model (FLEXPART/WRF-FLEXPART). This project is to examine how the Middle East region, particularly Qatar, is affected by running and potential air pollution sources.
In short, the following are my scientific interests:

  • Numerical and statistical modeling of air quality
  • Time-series analyses of remotely sensed and modeled climate data
  • Analysis of big environmental data
