Nikolaos Stefanos (Nikos) joined the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute as a PhD student in October 2020. He received a BSc in Informatics & Telecommunications from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and a MSc in Data Science from the Athens University of Economics & Business, both in Greece.
His MSc thesis was titled "Learning Optimization Algorithms with Neural Networks" and received the EFG Eurobank Scholarship for the best thesis of his class.
In the past, he has collaborated with various research institutions in Greece (NCSR Demokritos, Athena Center for Research & Innovation) and in Switzerland (University of Geneva, EPFL), focusing on Machine Learning applications & theory.
Research Interests
His main topic of research is learning generative models for high-dimensional data, with a focus on reducing supervision.
