Somnath Bhowmick has graduated from Gauhati University, India, with a specialization in physical chemistry. After his M.Sc., he worked as a research fellow at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India, on a biologically inspired quantum dynamics project.
He earned his doctoral degree from Aix-Marseille Université, France, in quantum chemistry. During his Ph.D., he developed methods to calculate lower bound energies and applied accurate methods to evaluate the role of excited states for the atom/ion adsorption on lithium clusters. Later, he moved to The Cyprus Institute, Cyprus as a postdoctoral fellow to work on the low-temperature kinetics of reactions with high astrochemical, environmental and industrial value.
Currently, he is pursuing research on the quantum chemical description of nanocluster formation and its potential application in catalysis, sensors etc. and the dynamics of atmospheric nucleation.
