As the successful NANOMEC Project nears its end, CaSToRC organized a two-day workshop titled “Computational Modelling of Heterogonous Materials: From Atomistic to the Engineering Scale”, bringing together experts in the field of Computational Engineering to present and discuss the project’s results. During the workshop, future avenues and collaborations were explored beyond the project’s lifetime.
This workshop was jointly organised under the NANOMEC and SimEA projects, and took place on 20-21 of March 2023 at The Cyprus Institute’s premises. It included a strong line-up of national and international speakers on advanced testing techniques and computational methods of materials, crossing the scale from the atomistic to the engineering scale.
In addition to the Principal Investigator of the project, Prof. Vangelis Harmandaris, and Fellow, Dr Hilal Reda, an impressive line-up of presentations were given by leading experts in the field, including Prof. Victor Eremeyev (Universita degli studi di Cagliari), Prof. Luca Placidi (International Telematic University Uninettuno), Dr Anastassia Rissanou (National Hellenic Research Foundation), and Assist. Prof. Pavlos Stephanou (Cyprus University of Technology).
About the NANOMEC Project:
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship “Mechanical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites via Multi-scale Modelling: Towards Non-classical Properties” (NANOMEC) was awarded to CaSToRC in 2020. This project served as an extension to the SimEA ERA Chair project held by Prof. Vangelis Harmandaris (Principal Investigator of NANOMEC and SimEA), bringing in the expertise of the Fellow, Dr Hilal Reda. The underlying research in this project focused on the development of polymer nanocomposites for novel applications, which has attracted considerable interest in recent years due to the enhanced properties of polymer nanocomposites.
