Hosted this year at the Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen), the annual 2025 DARIAH-EU event brought together over 270 researchers, academics, archaeologists from the DARIAH community and beyond in a vibrant and lively setting to network and exchange.#

This year’s event took place from June 17 to June 20, 2025, and the topic was The Past. The theme sought to explore the past as a thematic area encompassing a wide range of topics in the Digital Humanities, ranging from the study of ancient cultures to contemporary history. Indeed, the study of the past is greatly enriched by new technologies and methods, which have profoundly changed the ways we do research today, from primary research (digitized collections), analysis (OCR, HTR, etc), transmission and communication (blogs, online meetings, conferences & classes), and beyond. The impact of the event was recognized by the German Ministry for Research, Technology and Space who featured the event on their website.

The call for contributions included paper, panel and poster submissions that would leverage Digital Humanities approaches for analyzing, interpreting, and presenting historical and archaeological data. Whether through digital methods, workflows, archives, computational analysis, interactive media, or other digital means, the Conference Programme Committee, co-Chaired by CyI Associate Professor Georgios Artopoulos, aimed at highlighting innovative approaches for studying the past. A record number of diverse and engaging submissions resulted in a packed schedule of papers, panels, poster and demo presentations over the Annual Event’s days in Göttingen.

The event also hosted the Horizon Europe ECHOES (European Cloud for Heritage OpEn Science) ECCH project “Co-design Users and Research Collaboration Scenarios” workshop, where STARC Researchers, Dr Kristis Alexandrou and Dr Valentina Vassallo contributed to its successful proceedings.
