Limassol, 1 July 2026 

The new agreement builds on the successful collaboration of recent years, which contributed significantly to Limassol's selection as one of Europe's 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, as well as to the award of the EU Mission Label, a recognition that strengthens the city's ability to attract European and private investment for sustainable development projects.

Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Yiannis Armeftis, stated:
"This agreement strengthens our efforts to translate our climate neutrality ambitions into concrete projects and interventions that will improve citizens' daily lives, enhance the city's resilience, and create new opportunities for sustainable development. Our goal is a Limassol that develops through strategic planning, makes the most of every available opportunity, and leaves future generations with a city that is more functional, greener, and more competitive."

The President of The Cyprus Institute, Dr. Stavros Malas, stated:
"The transition of cities towards climate neutrality requires evidence-based scientific solutions, innovation, and close collaboration between the research community and local government. Our partnership with Limassol Municipality is an excellent example of how scientific knowledge can be effectively linked with policymaking and the implementation of actions that deliver tangible benefits for society and the environment."

The new Research Collaboration Agreement will remain in force until 2031 and provides a comprehensive framework for cooperation that will support the implementation of Limassol's Climate City Contract while contributing to the achievement of the objectives of the European Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.
