Polish Deputy Prime Minister Visits The Cyprus Institute to Discuss Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing

On Thursday, 15 January 2026, The Cyprus Institute (CyI) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Poland, led by H.E. Mr. Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs. The visit took place within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union and was also attended by H.E. Mr. Marek Szczepanowski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Cyprus.
 
The delegation was received by CyI Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Michalis Yiangou, together with members of the Institute’s senior leadership. Discussions centered on CyI’s mission and strategic role in advancing research excellence, innovation, and digital transformation at national, regional, and European levels.
 
A key highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the Institute’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) Facility. The Polish delegation had the opportunity to explore CyI’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and engage in an in-depth dialogue on the pivotal role of supercomputing in addressing contemporary digital and societal challenges.
