Strategic Alliance for Cultural Heritage: The Cyprus Institute and the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, Sign Memorandum of Understanding Featured

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by The Cyprus Institute and the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO. The Memorandum was signed by Professor Stavros Malas, President of The Cyprus Institute and Dr Marina Solomidou Ieronymidou, President of the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr Vasiliki Kassianidou.
 
The Memorandum aims to expand cooperation between the two institutions for the promotion and implementation of the principles, priorities and conventions of UNESCO on Education, Science, Environment, Sustainable Development, Culture and Cultural Heritage. At the same time, it contributes to strengthening Cyprus' participation in UNESCO programs for Culture and Cultural Heritage, and in particular the fight against looting and illegal trafficking of cultural goods.
 
Welcoming the guests, President of the Cyprus Institute, Professor Stavros Malas, emphasizes that this is an important moment, noting it is not the first time that The Cyprus Institute has collaborated with UNESCO, an organization that promotes universal human values ​​and contributes to global peace. He also noted that our country with such a rich cultural heritage should have many more monuments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
 
In her greeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, emphasized that The Cyprus Institute, with its long-standing excellence in research and international collaborations, can contribute decisively to the promotion of UNESCO’s goals. She indicated that the partnership of the research and academic community with the state is particularly important for the preservation and promotion of the rich tangible and intangible cultural heritage of our country.
 
President of the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, Dr. Marina Solomidou Ieronymidou, stated that through collaborations with important partners, such as the Cyprus Institute, with whom they share the same vision and values, the work of the Commission will be strengthened with new actions, contributing even more to the strengthening of Cypriot society.
