Visit by AKEL Delegation, Headed by its General Secretary Mr. Stefanos Stefanou to CyI

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, AKEL General Secretary, Mr. Stefanos Stefanou, accompanied by the Member of the Parliament, Mr. Christos Christofides, and AKEL’s Digital Policy Office, Mr. Leontios Filotheou, visited The Cyprus Institute’s premises in Athalassa, Nicosia.
 
Hosting the meeting was CyI President, Prof. Stavros Malas in the presence of CyI Vice-President of Operations, Dr Michalis Yiangou, CyI Asst. Vice President of Policy and Internal Communications, Mrs. Eleni Sophocleous, CyI Asst. Vice-President of Strategy and Development, Dr Konstantinos Kleovoulou, CyI Head of Graduate School, Dr Chrysanthia Leontiou, and CyI Director of Research and Technical Support, Dr Vassilis Tsakalos.
 
In his greeting, Mr. Stefanou highlighted that The Cyprus Institute deserves the praise and international recognition it has gained for its work. “CyI is an ambassador for Cyprus internationally, highlighting its role in showcasing our country and its capabilities in a critical area for the economy and society, such as research and innovation”, he noted.
 
Addressing the General Secretary of AKEL, Prof. Malas, stated that CyI is one of the most competitive institutions in Cyprus and Europe in the field of research and innovation, which is of great importance to the economy. Prof. Malas emphasized, citing the experience of many European countries, that the research and innovation sector can support policymaking with science to make better decisions for a sustainable economy.
 
The visit of AKEL General Secretary and the delegation to CyI, is part of an initiative to inform political leaders about the mission and the work of The Cyprus Institute.
