The meeting was also attended by CyI Assistant Vice President of Strategy and Development, Dr Konstantinos Kleovoulou, CyI Head of Communications Office, Dr Pavlos Tsiartas, CyI Manager of the Graduate School and Head of the Office of Graduate Studies, Dr Chrysanthia Leontiou, CARE-C Communications Coordinator, Ms. Marina Papageorgiou, Founder & CEO of Avaton Communications (media partners of CyI) Mrs. Mary Charitonos, and her partner Mr Nicolas Markantonis.

Following a brief presentation on the Institute’s profile, mission, numerous scientific and educational activities, and focusing on the existing cooperation between The Cyprus Institute and CyBC, by Dr Kleovoulou, both sides discussed opportunities for further collaboration.

During the meeting, Prof. Papanicolas and Dr Kareklas stressed the role that media, and particularly a public broadcasting service such as CyBC, should have in cultivating a culture of research, technology and innovation among the general public. Therefore, they highlighted the need of reinforcing the existing cooperation between CyI and CyBC.

Among the various actions proposed were:

  • Sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize and further expand the joint activities between the two organizations;
  • CyBC can assign reporter(s) to visit CyI and produce reportage(s) on its research activities and infrastructures;
  • CyI continues to supply CyBC with its upcoming events schedule so that they can better plan their coverage of CyI events

During the visit, the delegation of CyBC was given a guided tour of CyI campus and Institute’s laboratories, including Linear Fresnel Facility, Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL), Andreas Pittas Art Characterization (APAC) Laboratories, and Visualisation and Imaging Laboratory.

Finally, the CyBC leadership expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit, congratulated the Administration and the Scientists of the Institute for the impressive facilities and their research achievements, and they once again acknowledged the need to clearly and consistently disseminate the work of CyI to the broader public.
