Visit by the Ambassador of Egypt in Cyprus to CyI

On Thursday, 26th of May 2022, the Ambassador of Egypt in Nicosia, H.E. Mr. Amr Hamza, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Egypt, Mrs. Maha Shaheen, visited Τhe Cyprus Institute’s premises in Aglantzia in Nicosia.

Following a private meeting between the President of The Cyprus Institute, Prof. Costas Papanicolas and the Ambassador of Egypt, CyI Assistant Vice President for Institute Affairs, Dr Nicolas Jarraud, gave a brief presentation on the Institute’s numerous scientific and educational activities, while Dr Christiana Katti, Scientific Coordinator of EMME-CCI, presented the Climate Change Initiative in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East (EMME-CCI) in the presence of the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) Director, Prof. Fadi Comair.

The two diplomats were also given a guided tour of the Institute’s selected laboratories, including Andreas Pittas Art Characterization (APAC) Laboratories, where Ambassador Hamza was informed about research in the ancient sites of Alexandria, Egypt pursued by APAC Labs and expressed interest to learn more and follow its progress, the Visualisation and Imaging Lab, the Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL) and the Linear Fresnel Facility.

Finally, the Ambassador and Mrs. Shaheen, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit, and congratulated the Administration and the Scientists of the Institute for the impressive facilities and their research achievements.
