Visit by the Delegation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, to CyI

On Monday, 23rd of October 2023, a delegation of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, headed by Mr. Takashi Kiyoura, Deputy Director General of MEXT Science and Technology Policy Bureau, visited The Cyprus Institute’s premises in Nicosia, to get to know more about the Institute and its educational activities, and to identify and explore possible areas of collaboration.

Followed by a brief presentation on The Cyprus institute’s educational activities and milestones, the delegation had the opportunity to given a guided tour of selected CyI facilities, including the Linear Fresnel Facility (LIFE), the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories (APAC Labs), and the High-Performance Computing Facility (HPC).

Hosting the meeting was CyI President Prof. Stavros Malas, in the presence of CyI Assistant Vice President of Policies and Institute Affairs, Mrs. Eleni Sophocleous, CyI Head of the Graduate School, Dr Chrysanthia Leontiou, STARC Director, Prof. Michel Menu, CaSToRC Director, Prof. Constantine Dovrolis, EEWRC Director, Prof. Fadi Comair, CyI Director of Research and Technical Support, Dr Vassilis Tsakalos, and EEWRC Prof. Wojciech Lipinski.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of Japan in Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Yoshio Yamawaki.

The visitor’s delegation included the Administrative Researcher, MEXT International Science and Technology Affairs Division, Mr. Kazuki Miura, the Director of London Office of Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Prof. Naoto Kobayashi, the Managing Director of Department of International Strategy of Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), Dr Yasushi Ogasaka, the Director of Paris Office of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Mr. Hirotaka Yamada, JST Paris Office and its Deputy Director, Dr Takehito Higuchi, the Dean of the School of Life Science and Technology of Tokyo Institute of Technology, Dr Susumu Kajiwara.
