Visit of the Regional Hub Officer for Environment, Science, Technology and Health Affairs (ESTH), Ms. Megan Ihrie, and US Embassy Officials to CyI

With the scope of strengthening existing collaboration on climate change related matters, the Regional Hub Officer for Environment, Science, Technology and Health Affairs (ESTH), Ms. Megan Ihrie, and a US Embassy delegation visited CyI’s premises in Nicosia, on Tuesday, 13th of December 2022.

The US Embassy officials included, Specialist at the Regional Hub Office for Environmental, Scientific, Technological and Health Affairs, Mr. Bo Gregersen, US Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Wes Stange, Commercial Specialist, Ms. Ephie – Yvonnie Charalambidou, and Commercial Assistant, Ms. Anna Agrotou.

Hosting the meeting was CyI President, Prof. Costas N. Papanicolas in the presence of CyI Asst. Vice President for Policy and Internal Communications, Mrs. Eleni Sophocleous, and CyI Research Scientist, Dr Nestoras Fylaktos.
 
Following welcome words by Prof. Papanicolas, Mrs. Sophocleous gave an overview presentation about the Institute, which was followed by an overview regarding Climate Change updates and current issues and results of COP27, as well as regarding the progress of the Climate Change Initiative of Cyprus (EMME-CCI) by Prof. Costas Papanicolas.
  
The US officials were also given a guided tour of selected CyI Facilities and Laboratories such as the Linear Fresnel Facility and the HPC Facility.
 
Finally, Ms. Megan Ihrie, and the US embassy delegation expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to visit The Cyprus Institute and congratulated CyI’s Administration and researchers for their research and innovation achievements and major contribution to society and the economy for the benefit of the island and the entire EMME region.
