A Great Success for CyI’s 10th Annual Solar Car Race
CyI’s annual Solar Car Race was successfully organized for the 10th year in a row on Sunday, June 23th 2019 in the heart of the capital. The event, co-organized with the Nicosia Municipality, involved ten vehicles from various teams around the country that were powered solely by solar energy and offered a spectacular show to those who attended.
The competition was attended by the teams of Avgorou Regional Technical and Agricultural School, Agios Lazaros Larnaca Technical School, The Paralimni Technical School, Pascal and Pascal English School, The Larnaca Technical School, Apostolos Varnavas Lyceum and the Sunracers team from Nicosia.
Winner of the race was the Avgorou Regional Technical and Agricultural School with the “Hyperion 3” vehicle. Second place went to the Paralimni Technical School, with the vehicle “Quantum Leap”, while third place was also taken by Avgorou Regional Technical and Agricultural School, with the vehicle “Hyperion 1”. The best design award was won by Apostolou Varnavas Lyceum with vehicle “LAV”. Honorary awards were also given to all participants.
The Awards Ceremony was held in the courtyard of the Nicosia Old City Hall and the awards were presented by Nicosia Municipal Councilor, Chrysanthos Fakas.
The Solar Car Race once again confirms that The Cyprus Institute, a regional Center of Excellence, continues its leading role in research and post-graduate education in the fields of renewable energy and the environment, with the overall aim to promote Cyprus’ competitiveness and to create future prospects in the field.
