The Secretary General of AKEL Party, Mr. Andros Kyprianou, and MEP, Mr. Neoklis Sylikiotis, Visit CyI
The Secretary General of AKEL, Mr. Andros Kyprianou, and MEP, Mr. Neoklis Sylikiotis, visited CyI on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Petros Kareklas, President of the Friends of the Cyprus Institute Association, and Mr. Sotos Zackheos, Member of Board of Trustees of The Cyprus Institute.
Following a short briefing on the Institute’s research and educational activities by CyI President Professor Costas Papanicolas, the delegation were given a guided tour of CyI laboratories and other research infrastructures by Vice-President for Research, Prof. Euripides Stephanou.
In his greeting, Prof. Papanicolas said that "we are very pleased to welcome today the Secretary General of AKEL, Mr. Andros Kyprianou, and MEP Neoklis Sylikiotis, two friends of the Cyprus Institute. We are pleased they could find time from their busy schedule to visit us, which shows their appreciation for the Institute and its commitment to education, research and innovation".
In their comments, Mr. Kyprianou and Mr. Sylikiotis said they were impressed by the research achievements and the important work carried out at the Institute. Mr. Kyprianou was grateful for the opportunity to visit, a location that is very familiar to him, and congratulated the Board Members, the Administration and the Scientists of the Institute for the impressive facilities and the research and educational achievements they have accomplished.
Mr. Sylikiotis stressed that his involvement with the development of The Cyprus Institute has a long personal history, beginning with the very founding of the Institute years ago, and continues to this day, through the many positions he has served over time, both in Cyprus and abroad.
Finally, both Mr. Kyprianou and Mr. Sylikiotis assured that their support for The Cyprus Institute remains firm and unwavering, both within Cyprus, and also at the European level within the European Parliament and the European Commission.
