Aliosha joined the Cyprus Institute in September 2020 after graduating with his bachelor’s degree from Brown University in May 2020. At Brown, he concentrated in Archaeology and the Ancient World as a member of the Engaged Scholars Program and also completed an independent concentration in Critical Thought and Global Social Inquiry. In 2019–20 he was an Undergraduate Fellow at the Cogut Institute for the Humanities, where he completed a senior honors thesis entitled “How Do We Make A World? Hannah Arendt, the Khoi-San, and the Problems of Alterity and Humanism.”

His past research experience stretches from community-engaged and ethnographic projects to archaeological work in the field and in the laboratory. At the Cyprus Institute, Aliosha works closely with Dr. Nikolas Bakirtzis and other students and researchers at STARC. He is currently focusing on a research project on Agios Sozomenos, an abandoned village at the outskirts of Nicosia with a multi-layered history and a complexly resonating present.
