The opinion that The Cyprus Institute has showcased our country internationally, as a hub of knowledge and technology development, was expressed by the President of DHKO, Mr. Nicholas Papadopoulos, during his visit at The Cyprus Institute’s premises on Wednesday, 29th of November. Mr. Papadopoulos was accompanied by Mr. Theodoros Manitaras and Mrs. Katerina Christophidou.

Mr. Papadopoulos was briefly informed about the mission and the multidisciplinary work of The Cyprus Institute in the fields of research, technology and innovation, as well as CyI’s latest achievements.

Hosting the meeting was CyI President, Prof. Stavros Malas in the presence of CyI Vice-President of Operations, Dr Michalis Yiangou, CyI Asst. Vice President of Policy and Internal Communications, Mrs. Eleni Sophocleous, CyI Asst. Vice-President of Strategy and Development, Dr Konstantinos Kleovoulou, and CyI Director of Research and Technical Support, Dr Vassilis Tsakalos.

Investing in innovation and technology, said Mr. Papadopoulos, is an investment in the future of the country, emphasizing at the same time that it is the state’s obligation to contribute concretely to this effort by supporting Centers of Excellence, such as The Cyprus Institute.

CyI President, Prof. Stavros Malas, indicated that it is the observation of any independent judge that CyI is one of the best advocates of Cyprus in the field of research, technology and innovation. He further emphasized that there is no better investment than research and innovation. “This way we retain our youth in the country, offering quality job positions for them to conduct research and create not only financial, but also intellectual wealth. Intellectual wealth brings self-confidence, and countries with self-confidence can stand on their own feet and hope for sustainable development”, he stated.

DHKO’s delegation had the opportunity to get a guided tour of selected CyI facilities, including the Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL), Linear Fresnel Facility (LIFE) and the Andreas Pittas Art Characterization Laboratories (APAC Labs).

The visit of the President of DHKO to CyI is part of CyI’s initiative to inform political leaders about its work and progress. It is worth noting that The Cyprus Institute was visited days ago by the Speaker of the House of the Representatives, and President of DHSY, Mrs. Annita Demetriou, and the General Secretary of AKEL, Mr. Stefanos Stefanou.
