Delegation From the Ministry of Education and Culture, Headed by the Minister, Dr. Kostas Champiaouris, Visits CyI
The Minister of Education and Culture, Dr. Kostas Champiaouris visited CyI on Wednesday, Apr. 18, 2018, accompanied by Mrs Egly Pantelakis, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Elias Markatzis, Director of Technical Education, and Mr. Marios Savvides, Officer at the Ministry. The meeting was also attended by Dr Petros Kareklas and Mrs Soula Kythreotou-Zavou, President and Vice President of the "Friends of The Cyprus Institute" Association, respectively.
Following a short briefing on the Institute’s research and educational activities by CyI President Professor Costas Papanicolas, the Minister and his delegation were given a guided tour of CyI laboratories and other research infrastructures by Vice-President for Research, Prof. Euripides Stephanou.
In his welcoming address, CyI President Professor Costas Papanicolas said that “we are very pleased today to welcome the Minister of Education and Culture, a distinguished educator and a friend of The Cyprus Institute. We are pleased that he could find time from his busy schedule to visit CyI, which shows his appreciation for the Institute and its commitment to education, research and innovation".
In his remarks, the Minister said that he is very impressed with the achievements of The Cyprus Institute. “The Ministry is most interested in formulating a joint plan for the promotion and diffusion of the Institute’s work to all levels within the education sector, both to students and educators. This could be in the form of organized visits by schools, which could happen as early as this coming September, joint organization of events, or other activities, that we could agree on”.
Dr. Champiaouris expressed his thanks for the opportunity to visit, and congratulated the Board Members, the Administration and the Scientists of the Institute for the impressive facilities and the research achievements they have accomplished.
